WHERE TO GET THE PEACE THAT YOU NEED

Luke 19:28-44 tells us about Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem while riding on a donkey.

It is easy to focus on the jubilation and the atmosphere of celebrations that took place that day and miss a very important issue that brought Jesus to Jerusalem and into the world and that issue is: peace. When the disciples and the crowd began singing and laying their cloaks down for Jesus to ride over as they waved palm branches, they sang saying “blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord, Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” first of all they referred to Jesus as a King. But this King was a unique one. Kings of those days did not ride on donkeys but on horses which was used also as an animal for war. He rode the peaceful donkey used for peaceful purposes.

So Jesus came as the King of peace. And His peace will not only affect us but also heaven. God’s heart would now rest from the distress He had about the sins of men knowing that He has made it possible through the sending of His son for man to be freed from condemnation. For the bible says that all have sinned and can not save themselves but all who believe in  Jesus and the price He paid for their sins can be set free from condemnation that sin brings and have peace with God (Rom 3:23-24, Jn 3:18).

That is why Jesus entered Jerusalem in a humble way. He had all the peace that every one in Jerusalem needed. But when Jesus saw the city from mount Olives He began to weep over it. Why? Because they had missed the point, their hearts had hardened and so their eyes could not see that the King of peace had come to them to give them all the peace they needed. Yet they were alerted years before Jesus came through prophet Zechariah reported in Zechariah 9:9-10 which says that “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! See, your King comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the frail of a donkey. I will take away the chariot from Ephraim and the war-horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule extends from sea to sea and from river to the ends of the earth.

This was the prophecy about the messiah. Jerusalem was told to celebrate because the messiah was coming to deal with their sins and grant them righteousness and salvation. And He was also going to proclaim peace to all nations and take away all that is used for causing war. And the cause of lack of peace in the world has always been sin.

But they missed this great promise on day of its fulfillment that is why Jesus wept. Sin brings a sentence of condemnation. Any prisoner who is condemned cannot have peace until the condemnation is dealt with. Jesus came to pardon our sins so that we can have peace with God. And this He does when we accept Him and the message of peace that He brings through the gospel. Unless sin is dealt with there is no peace.

Satan uses our sins as a weapon of war against us. Pardon takes that tool away from his hands. So when Jesus reconciles us with God we receive peace. Jerusalem rejected His offer of peace.  And because of that Jesus said destruction would come upon it and its people. And indeed in AD 70, the Roman army attacked Jerusalem and razed it to the ground.

Isaiah 53:5 The bible says that “the chastisement (needed to obtain) peace and well being for us was upon Him.” The people of Jerusalem rejected the words of Jesus Christ and they looked elsewhere for peace. Their idea of the messiah was one who would come and overthrow the Roman rule for them. But the mission of Jesus was greater than that. His mission was to have men reconciled to God through faith in Him and they would receive peace.  That comes when their sins are forgiven.

He also came to deliver them from the power of sins. There are many people out there who are miserable because of their life style of sin. They want to get out but they think there is no way. What they don’t want to do they keep on doing. I want to assure you man, woman or child who is in such a situation that there is away out for you. That is why Jesus came, died and rose again never to die again. Because he lives you shall also live when you are in Him.

You can have peace by believing in the payment that Jesus made for your sins on the cross. Sin had to be punished because God is just. But God because of love decided to punish His Son on our behalf. That He did so that if we can accept His Son we would be taken as people whose debts are paid for. So you can be spared divine Punishment if only you will believe in Jesus and decide in your heart that you desire change. Then God would receive you and grant you peace.

Not only that, He also suffered on the cross to take away your curses and give you blessings. (Gal 3:13-14).

To crown it all, Jesus said He is the life (Jn 10:6). He proved that by destroying the power of death and coming up out of the grave. Of all people who claimed to be from God, Jesus is the only one who defeated death. Why? So that in Him we can be released from the power of death that came through Adam’s sin and our own and receive the life f God in Christ.

This season, God is calling you. Are you going to miss God’s peace, like the people of Jerusalem did? When they did not recognise the time when God came to bring them peace?

Jesus offers you peace with God. Turn away from your sins and receive Him as your Lord and savoir and the He will grant you life. Don’t allow your sin to remain hanging over you, like the people of Jerusalem did. Sin destroys even if at times it appears sweet.

In John 14:27 Jesus says! “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and d not be afraid” there is a lot that the world offer as a source of peace. Don’t look elsewhere for peace. You will not find peace in possessions or in the bottle of whisky or beer or in gratifying certain desires. You will only find fake peace there. But in Christ you will find all the peace that you will need. Even in the midst of the storm, still His peace will reign in your heart to sustain you.

Will you receive Christ’s offer of life and peace? Why not!

If you are ready to do that please say this simple prayer of commitment.

“Dear Jesus, I come to you as a sinner. Forgive my sins. I am sorry about my sins. Right now, I invite you into my heart as my Lord and savoir. Change my life and let your peace rule my life.” Amen.

If you said that prayer from your heart, you are saved by grace through faith in Christ. Begin to read the bible from the gospel of John. Let us know about your decision for Christ through text messages, and the mail. Find a bible based church near you where you can fellowship in order to grow spiritually.

May God bless you.
