“And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, let my father and mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me” (1 Sam 22:3)

Our text shows that David was in exile in a foreign land (Moab) looking for a political asylum for his parents. This happened because King Saul attempted to kill David because he was jealous of David’s popularity. Saul feared that people would give David the kingship instead of his son Jonathan. All David’s family ran away from home because they feared that king Saul could wipe their lives away. David and father’s house were rendered homeless

(1 Sam 22:1-2).  He had lost his job as the army commander of King Saul and also all the family resources. He was now a leader of four hundred disgruntled men who joined him in the bush.

At this point in time David had already been anointed secretly as by Prophet Samuel (1 Sam 16:13).

According to God’s plan, David was a destined to kingship. He had already received the word and the anointing through Prophet Samuel. I believe David expected things to become better and better. The turn of events created a crisis and an emergency for David. How David handled this crisis should be a lesson for every one of us who trusts in God. The key to the solution of David’s problem is found in the statement he made to the king of Moab.

David told the king of Moab these words: “Keep for me my parents till I know what God will do for me.”

The key to David’s solution to his crisis lies in the second portion of that statement:. “Till I know what God will do for me.” First of all David knew that his answer laid with God. He did not tell the king to keep his parents till he overthrew Saul, or built a big army and etc. The answer he needed would come from knowing God’s will at that point. David knew that God had a plan for him. It was God he needed to go back to when things seems to be wrong. And he knew that God was going to do for him something good. This entails seeking God when we are stuck. When we don’t know what to do next, when we are faced with danger, when we are in lack, when we are homeless, when we are in trouble, the answer lies in seeking God till we know what to do next.

For every situation, for every emergency, there is an answer. There is a word of God for you. There is direction or guidance for you that shall grant you the breakthrough you need. David sought God. 1 Samuel 22:5 tells us what happened afterwards: “And the prophet Gad said unto David, abide not in the hold; depart. And get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.”

The prophet of God went out to David and took for him the word he needed. The prophet made the point clear to

David. He told David not to stay in his stronghold, but to go back to the land of Judah this is because that is  where God had planned to make him king. The stronghold in Moab could have made David feel a bit comfortable and safe from the attack of King Saul yet it was the wrong place for David. Yes it was a stronghold yet if David were to remain there he would have never sat on the throne or entered a palace. God gave David a word through the prophet: “go back to Judah that is where your blessing is.” And David obeyed. Many people are struggling in life because they simply don’t know what God wants to do for them. They don’t know God’s will and therefore they don’t know what to do. Once you have sought God and he has granted you an answer, you receive the grace to endure the challenges and hardship that face you until your breakthrough has come.

Onetime I found myself in the midst of a crisis that was caused for me by some people. It was something I never expected. I felt I could not endure the trials of that problem. I cried out to God in desperation. And one evening in the midst of my trial the Lord spoke to me. He said “My grace is sufficient for in your weakness.” Those few sentences impacted my life greatly. I knew for sure that the Lord was going to help me. Later on in a vision, the Lord let me know that I was coming out of that trial with great blessings. Indeed the Lord took control of my situation and used it to bless my life. Romans 8:28 says that He causes all things to work for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

Even if it is the devil who has created a problem for you, God can take hold of it because of your love for him. What will always bring things in the right perspective for you is the knowledge of God’s will. In all situation walk close to God, seek Him for His specific will pertaining to your life and circumstances and He will let you know. Knowledge will bring about your success. The privilege to seek God and receive an answer from Him rest on Christ Jesus. When we ask God in His name, we receive our answer.

If you have not yet made Christ as your Lord and saviour please do it now. You can do that by saying this simple prayer of commitment:

Dear Jesus, I come to you as a sinner. I repent of my sins. Right now I invite you into my heart as my Lord and Savour. Help me to see life through your promises. Amen.”

If you said that prayer from your heart, then you are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. Find a bible based church near you where you can fellowship in order to grow spiritually. Let us know about your decision for Christ through our contacts.

May God Bless you.
