Recognize His Voice

John 10:5 NIV
[5] But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

Jesus is saying that his sheep will never follow a stranger because they do not recognize that voice. This is a very serious statement.

What is the voice of a stranger? It is the voice of the tempter. Temptation comes through enticement or deception.
How do we learn to recognize the voice of Jesus? Through reading or listening to the written word (bible). Jesus came to fulfill the word (Matt. 5:17-20). Even when the Holy Spirit speaks directly to us, he repeats what is consistent with the word. Therefore, any communication that is contrary to the word is recognized as that of a stranger and the sheep (believer) can choose to reject it. When you as a believer is tempted and you remember what God says in his word you won’t fall into that temptation. And on a daily basis ask for grace against temptation through the Lord’s Prayer Matt. 6:9-13).
“And don’t let us yield to temptation but rescue us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:13 NLT).

When you are rescued from temptation, you won’t follow a stranger. You will keep following Jesus.

Friend, do you have a relationship with Jesus? If no, why not enter a saving relationship with him now? You can do that through a simple pray of commitment here below.
Say: “Dear Jesus, I come to you as a sinner. Forgive my sins. Right now, I invite you into my heart as my Lord and Saviour. Amen”.
